About this tech This is the Canon Powershot A430 and this is in my opinion one of the best cameras ever made, sound suprising? It might do. But here i will be discussing this amazing camera and why you should get one yourself. First of, what do i use it for.. Well because i make YouTube videos i need a camera to record with, and this one is very compact, records great video for how small it is, and the audio isn't too bad. Let's get to specification and some fun things. Specification The Canon PowerShot A430 records in full 480p at 10fps, but also records full 240p at 30fps, this is quite powerful for a digitial camera, and even though it may not beat a Mini DV camera, it still holds up against one as it's plenty more convenient. Video length cap is at 3mins at 240p, 1min at 480p but there is a modern solution to this problem, information in the next section. It takes 4 Mega Pixel photographs with sizes up to 2272x1704, pared with the sharpness setting (which we'll talk about later) this will take about 400 photos with a 1GB card. The smaller sizes, 1024x768 can take about 1000> photos. The photos can sometimes be overexposed, but there is a solution for that.. Use the manual mode in camera. This allows you to adjust what type of light metering you would like to use, as well as additional exposure tools. The maximum SD Card size for this device is 2GB, device not compatible with SDHC, so nothing above 2GB, 3GB SD Cards are not common and were not produced. Hacking the camera If you want to use this camera daily you'll need ot at one point have a look into hacking it. This is not illigal and isn't actaully really hacking, just more like altering the cameras abilities. Lucky for us there is an awesome dedicated comunity of people that create scripts for these cameras, you can download the files here first i will say what it can do. With the scripts you can make the camera record longer, create cool timelapse videos and if your good at coding, make your own! Share with the community. First donwload the file for the A430, the bigger zip file. Then on your computer unzip it, and just copy and paste the containing files onto the camera SD card. After you've done that put the SD card in your camera and turn it on, flick the switch at the top and leave it on playback (the wheel that you can select the photo mode, recording mode...) Click menu and stay on the far left tab which is camera setting. At the very bottom below reset camera there should be a firmware update. What these files are doing is tricking the camera into thinkning its an update when it's obiously not. If the Firmware update doesn't come up, your memory battery is dead or just simply remove the SD card, then turn on the camera, then turn off, put the SD card back in a repeat the steps. After all of this it should come up with the CHDK, You've DONE IT! then click the button on the bottom right, the one with the file image on. And it comes up with lots of scripts to view. You'll need to reinstall the firmware once you turn it off and back on. |
